PPT 6 of 7 Persistence and the Master Mind Group

(PPT) Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. –Calvin Coolidge
We are more than half way through this series called, Manifesting through the Law of Attraction. Since the beginning of this series, we have discussed various factors that affect the efficacy or the success rate of this Law. And before I go any further, let me rephrase what I just said. It is incorrect to say whether the law work or not. The Law always works. It is a Universal Law as Universal and as scientific as gravity. In the context that we are talking about, the law is always manifesting that which we have chosen to focus on with our thoughts, with our words, with our attitudes, etc. If we have been focusing on what we do not want, that is what we are going to manifest exactly. If our approach to demonstrating has been vague or namby-pamby, the results are going to be likewise.

Now, as a quick review of what we have covered so far, number one, we are in a Universe that is in constant vibration. This Universe was set in motion by Source energy. We can say the same thing in religious terms by quoting the first verse of Genesis, In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. We also discussed that the Law of Attraction does not work outside of the realm of Spirituality, faith, and prayer. We also talked about using the power of our minds, precisely the power of auto suggestion to train our mind to focus on the things we want. Specifically, we said that we could use this power of autosuggestion in declaring and affirming that the Universe, God, or Spirit can help us increase our faith. Later we talked about the importance of having a burning desire and clarity of purpose to achieve our dreams, our goals, and desires. To that end, we could use the power of our imagination and visualization. Last week we talked about the importance of making decisions and taking action on those decisions. We discussed how too much analysis could lead to paralysis. We also mention that the emotion of fear was often the culprit for our lack of action.
I ended my talk last week introducing the concept of the Master Mind, which is something that I heard for the first time more than 40 years ago when I first read Napoleon Hills classic, Think and Grow Rich.
Today we will expand on the Master Mind but also introduce persistence as a key element on manifesting abundance, demonstrating the health of mind and body or anything that we wish to have manifested in our lives.
The Master Mind is a group of people with one goal in common. This group should not be more than 4 or five people, but it could be as little as 2. Remember that the concept of the Master Mind originates with the Gospel verse that reads, “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them. (Matthew 18- 19,20) I think it is important that we look at this verse spiritually or metaphysically as opposed to literally. Is this saying that this is some conditional statement that indicates that we need to meet in the name of Jesus of Nazareth? I honestly do not think so. Remember that Jesus never called attention to himself and instead, gave all the credit to the Father. In this particular case, “In my Name” means, in the name of the Christ or the name of the awareness that in God we live, in God we move and in God we have our being. When two or more, agree on that premise, the level of God or Source energy vibration, will rise, making the Master Mind group more powerful, because of the Creator, himself, herself ITSELF, is, by all means, and purposes, part of that meeting.
So, from a practical point a view, a Master Mind group can and should accomplish several things. We have discussed the first one. The union of two or three minds with one sole purpose raises the energy and the vibration of that group to one of Unity with our Creator. The second thing that it accomplishes is that provides two classes of support. The first one is that the Master Mind should be composed of people that are going to support your dream, your ambitions and your goals. The other thing that it offers is what I choose to call, Accountability Support. What this means, is the group will lovingly question you if you did not follow through on what you said, you were going to do. One of the qualities that a good and stable Master Mind group has is the expectation that everyone in that group is serious about manifesting whatever it is that they are pursuing. A Master Mind group is not a social group. A Master Mind group is a group of support and accountability. The meetings of a Master Mind group should not be longer than 30 to 60 minutes and should follow an agenda or protocol.
Now, one of the qualities that lead or move people to seek the support of a Master Mind group, or forming one with that goal, is the quality of persistence, which is a fundamental element for the Law of Attraction to work in the direction of your dreams. It doesn’t matter how disciplined we are at being persistent, now and then we catch ourselves falling off the wagon and slacking in the things that we are supposed to do to stay focused on the things that move us closer to our goals.
Among the many things that get in the way of persistence are distractions. Brian Tracy, a sales writer, and motivator said that there are two types of activities. Some activities are goal-achieving while others are tension-relieving. Being glued to the television, our mobile devices or other distractions is tension-relieving. Making phone calls, working on a goal related project is goal-achieving. Also when we watch TV, we are helping someone else achieve their dreams but are not moving any closer to achieving ours.

How to:

First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say, “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter.)
Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money
you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)
Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ, SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich. These steps may be adapted to reflect your dreams, goals or healing need

Next week we will bring it all together when we wrap up the series with a message about taking the Law of Attraction to the Next Level. I can’t wait to hear what I have to say.

Blessing to all.

Persistence and The Master Mind Coming Attraction

Calvin Coolidge wrote, Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.

This quote sets the stage for our lesson tomorrow about the role of persistence and the Master Mind group in manifesting our dreams through the Law of Attraction. See you tomorrow at 10

August 7 5 of 7 -Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

1

(PPT) Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matt 18:19)

Every time I prepare a lesson, I ask myself, why am I doing this lesson? Back in ministerial school, in one of the models for preparing a talk, that was call, the need. In other words, what is the need that my audience has, which will be filled ultimately by the message I am preparing? Quite often, that is not only my audience’s need; it is also my need. As I like to say, I have not walked over Lake Okeechobee yet. In other words, I am walking this path like anyone else.

I think that the basic need that I found in preparing these talks is that, on one end, we have this extremely powerful Universal Law of Attractions, which has been proven to work by the people that use it and live by it, and that has been around since the beginning of times. On the other hand, not everyone is reaping the benefits of great abundance, perfect health and all the wonderful things that the Law of Attraction promises. So, here are some questions: Why is it working for some and not for others? Does it work all the time? Why does it and why doesn’t it?
Attempting to answer those questions has been the purpose of this series all along. I found out that the use and application of the Law of Attraction was quite more than having a positive attitude. The application of the Law of Attraction requires having a burning desire for the acquisition of whatever it is we are seeking; it requires the systematic use of our mind and the programming of our subconscious mind by the power of autosuggestion. The Law of Attraction cannot work unless you have faith in a higher power, which is greater than you and me and is totally capable of doing that which seems humanly impossible. The law of attraction requires focus and concentration, which we discussed last week. The Law of Attraction requires that we make decisions and take positive action based on those decisions, which brings us to today’s lesson.

Decision Antidote to procrastination
(PPT) CAREFUL ANALYSIS of thousands of men and women who had experienced failure revealed that LACK OF DECISION was near the head of the list of the 30 Major Causes of Failure (Chapter 6). This is no mere statement of a theory—it is a fact. PROCRASTINATION, the opposite of DECISION, is a common enemy, which practically every individual must conquer. Hill, Napoleon., – Think and Grow Rich.

If we look back at in time, most of the great decisions that ended up changing history were made at great risk. Many lost their lives because of the decisions they made. We would not enjoy the freedoms that we enjoy today if John Hancock, Samuel Adams, Thomas Jefferson an others would have not made the decision of organizing the Thirteen Colonies and challenge the British rulers. Ultimately each and everyone that signed the Declaration of Independence put their lives at great risk. Did they feel fear? You bet. But they did not allow fear to paralyze them.
I believe that fear is one the one factor that can get in the way of us moving forward. Sometimes overthinking things, can stop us from acting. Zig ZIglar used to call that paralysis by analysis.
Important decisions need to be made without the counsel of friends and family or other people. Every one has an opinion, and every one seems to be an expert on what you are trying to do. They also have their own fears, which they will project onto you

Most of us do not make decisions because we have not been taught to have a definite purpose. Many of us went through high school and college without declaring a definitive purpose, which is a decision of itself. We ended up settling for the first job we found. Some made a career out of that first job; some were happy ever after; many could not wait to retire from that first job.

Decisions are not only about careers, jobs or beginning a business, or perhaps moving to another city or another country. Decisions can also be about what are you going to accept as true for you, for your life, for your circumstances.

Some of accepted early on the opinions that others had about them. Some made a conscious decision not to accept those opinions.
I believe that it is important that we consider here the scripture I shared with you at the beginning.

(PPT) Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matt 18:19)

This is important at various levels. We have talked early on about raising our vibration to the vibration of Source Energy. The Universal Principle in the passage of Scripture, is the principle of the Master Mind (Source Energy). Where two or more gather in agreement about a specific thing, they, which you and I know are visible expressions of SOURCE ENERGY, of God, of Spirit, they raise their vibrations to such a level that Spirit is part of that group and of that effort. And as we all very well know, with God, all things are possible.

Spiritually speaking, we all have internal powers such as faith, zeal, imagination, strength, power, love, wisdom, etc. The Spiritual master mind consists in putting taking two or more of those powers and, in a state of prayer and meditation, put those powers in agreement towards a specific purpose, always remembering that those powers are operating under the direction of your Christ self. That is the spiritual Aster Mind at work

Napoleon Hill suggests that the real founding fathers of our nation are John Hancock, Samuel Adams and David Henry Lee. They are the ones who organized the first correspondent committee of the Thirteen Colonies “for the purpose of friendly cooperation for the betterment of the Colonies of British America.” The Master Mind group of Hancock Adams and Lee generated the power that ended up with the formation of this great country of ours.

The Master Mind group must be a small, 3 to 5 max that will support each other, that are of the same mind and that will affirm each other in the pursue of each other’s dreams. If you are serious and passionate about pursuing a dream and a definite purpose, you need a Master Mind group.

Next week we will expand on the power of the Master Mind combined with the quality of persistence, to make the Law of Attraction work all the time. See you then.

July 30 – 4 of seven Desire and Concentration

1

(PPT) 1

A man should conceive of a legitimate purpose in his heart, and set out to accomplish it. He should make this purpose the centralizing point of his thoughts. It may take the form of a spiritual ideal, or it may be a worldly object, according to his nature at the time being; but whichever it is, he should steadily focus his thought-forces upon the object, which he has set before him. He should make this purpose his supreme duty, and should devote himself to its attainment, not allowing his thoughts to wander away into ephemeral fancies, longings, and imaginings. This is the royal road to self-control and true concentration of thought. ALLEN, JAMES. AS A MAN THINKETH (with linked TOC) (Kindle Locations 206-211). White Dog Publishing. Kindle Edition.

This is talk number 4 of the Sunday series based on the Law of Attraction. Why am I doing a series on thus Universal Law that has been around from the beginning of times. Well I believe that some of us, stumbled into this law, some of us have studied it intentionally and deliberately. Others, discovered it when they red the book or saw the video of, The Secret, which is no secret. If you would like to catch up with the previous talks, they are posted in our blog, at www.unitychurch.com. (PPT) 2 (Show website and blog)

The quote by James Allen that I read at the beginning says that we should make our purpose the centralizing point of our thoughts. Napoleon Hill says that we must have a definite purpose and that if we do not know what that is, we should make it our definite purpose to find our definite purpose.

Now, I believe that purpose is something that needs to be fueled by desire or in the words of Napoleon Hill a burning desire.

There is a story of a young man that admired so much the work of Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor, that he developed over time a burning desire to become Edison assistant. He set out to fulfill his dream and left his home and traveled by train to Orange, New Jersey where the inventor lived. He new what he wanted and never contemplated that he would fail. At the first opportunity he accepted a job sweeping the floor of Edison’s lab. 5 years later he was Edison’s assistant.

Now in this case, or in any similar case, you will find people that will try to discourage you from pursuing your desire and your dream. Please do not listen to them and think about the true meaning of the word, desire, The word desire literally means, from the Father. In other words, it is Source Energy, God, Spirit, the Higher Power, that planted that seed in your heart and in your mind. And if that seed was planted, the means for its accomplishment will be found there as well.

Now let us remember that our desires are a very personal thing and are directly related to where we are in life. There are people that are set and comfortable financially and might be yearning for physical and health; and of course, that is a very worthy goal. Others are yearning of a healthy and fulfilling relationship; and, of course, that is also, ok. Maybe your desire is for financial prosperity for peace of mind; and that is also ok. And maybe is all of the above or a combination. That is also OK.

Now, the important is that whatever your desire is, if you really want it, you need to make it the object of your existence and not allow any distractions to get in the way.

That is why it is so important to get clear about what we really want so we do not spin our wheels and fail to get anywhere. Here is where concentration comes in. That’s why I chose to combine Desire and Concentration in one talk.

There is one or many spiritual abilities that we can harness in order to achieve this concentration. Charles Fillmore, the co-founder of Unity wrote.

(PPT) 3
“Today men are striving to acquire power through money, legislation, and man-made government, and falling short because they have not mastered themselves” (The Twelve Powers of Man, 67).

Now, My friend Linda Martella Whitsett wrote:

A familiar affirmation in Unity communities is “There is only one Power in the universe, God/ Good” (H. Emilie Cady, Lessons in Truth, 44). God is not a being that expresses power. God is power itself; we are the divine power expressing powerfully. We express our power ability in the following ways. Martella-Whitsette, Linda. Divine Audacity: Dare to Be the Light of the World (p. 106). Hampton Roads Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Linda writes that our spiritual ability of Power is the power of Concentration, Self-Mastery and Authority.

Now, in the context of this series, we are constantly having this basketball game so to speak in our mind. And like in the big leagues, there are two narrators. One is telling us play by play objectively what’s going on. While the other one talks about statistics and makes predictions based on past performance. Now we have the power to concentrate in what’s important now, which is the play by play of our life. We have the power to concentrate on the task at hand and which activities are going to make a specific contribution to the accomplishment of our goal, dream or ambition.

These days we hear a lot the word, multitasking. Perhaps is the rapid way we live our lives today, but the fact is that when me multi task we actually fail to concentrate on the most important task at hand. One very present example is texting or talking on the phone while driving. I am guilty of that myself.

(PPT) 4 Our concentration ability is the power of single-mindedness. Concentration intensifies thought the way a laser intensifies light. Martella-Whitsette, Linda. Divine Audacity: Dare to Be the Light of the World (p. 107). Hampton Roads Publishing. Kindle Edition.

Now, at the risk of contradicting myself, I must share that research shows that intense and hyper focus reduces the rate of success or accomplishment as the case of someone that is preparing for an important test. What shall we focus on then is the question?

I believe that the Apostle, Paul has the answer:

(PPT) 5 “Finally, brothers [and sisters], whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things” (Philippians 4: 8). Martella-Whitsette, Linda. Divine Audacity: Dare to Be the Light of the World (p. 108). Hampton Roads Publishing. Kindle Edition.

I believe that “these things” are our highest spiritual ideals which reside in us as divine attributes: Divine Love, Dive Wisdom, Divine Strength, Divine Justice, Divine Compassion, Divine Honor and so on.
When we direct our attention to these things, we are not only receiving the power that emanates from the Spirit within as each one of these divine attributes.

Next week we will look at the importance of making decisions, particularly as an antidote to procrastination. I definitely will not wait until Saturday to write the lesson. God Bless.

July 23 Talk 3 of 7 Autosuggestion and Imagination

(PPT 1 ) Jesus the Good Shepherd

So again Jesus said to them, “Very truly, I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and bandits; but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly. (John 10: 7-10)

Good morning, today we are continuing our Law of Attraction series. In the first lesson, we talked about our Universe being a Universe of vibration, which started with Source Energy, or God, and how important it is for us to match the vibration of Source Energy, or be in alignment with God, in order for the Law of Attraction to work. Last week we took it a step further by integrating Faith into our process. Again this was about matching the vibration of Source Energy; about being in alignment with God, through effective prayer and meditation. We also outlined what effective prayer was, and by the way, if your go to our blog, you will find a PDF with a Power Point of the lesson with the steps outlined. We are also going to be having a practical exercise of these steps in 4 Thursday evenings ONLINE webinars. These webinars will be recorded, in case you cannot attend them.

Today we will be dealing with combining autosuggestion and imagination in order to program our subconscious mind for success in whatever endeavor we are pursuing.

I want to get something out of the way. When we hear the term “autosuggestion” it is easy to go to a place of thinking that this is about sitting in the Lotus position and chanting suggestions to our mind. Not necessarily; even though that might work. This is what Napoleon Hill has to say about this subject.

(PPT 2) AUTOSUGGESTION is a term, which applies to all suggestions, and all self-administered stimuli, which reach one’s mind through the five senses. Stated in another way, autosuggestion is self-suggestion. Hill, Napoleon. Think and Grow Rich!

In other words, autosuggestion or self-suggestion is like this agency who’s job is to decide which of the thoughts that are being entertained by our conscious mind, is allowed to pass into the subconscious with enough force that such thought, combined, with FAITH, can connect with SOURCE ENERGY and begin to mold that invisible substance into manifestation.

(PPT 3) NO THOUGHT, whether negative or positive, CAN ENTER THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND WITHOUT THE AID OF THE PRINCIPLE OF AUTOSUGGESTION, with the exception of those thoughts picked up as “flashes of insight or inspiration.” Stated differently, all sense impressions which are perceived through the five senses are captured and processed by the conscious thinking mind and may be either passed on to the subconscious mind or rejected, at will. The conscious faculty serves, therefore, as an outer guard at the approach to the subconscious. Hill, Napoleon. Think and Grow Rich.

This is extremely important. Those of you that are comforted by Biblical support of these Universal principles, this is the spiritual or even psychological meaning of the Scripture I read at the beginning. Here is part of it again:

(PPT 4) I am the gate. Whoever enters by me will be saved, and will come in and go out and find pasture. (John 10: 9)

In this case, we are taking it to the next level, by having our Christ Consciousness be the screening process of anything that wants to pass into our subconscious. These days we hear a lot the term, “live streaming”, meaning a broadcast that is happening live on the Internet. It is taking place in real time as opposed to something that has been previously recorded.

Well there is a live stream of thoughts that is constantly being broadcast. There are thoughts associated with fear, and there are thoughts associated with love. We need to decide which are we going to allow passing through. Once again, by raising the vibration to that vibration of Source Energy or being in alignment with God, or The Christ, we will make sure that we are on the way to manifesting good and only good.

Now the other subject that I would like to touch base here is the use of our imagination. Not too long ago we were talking about it during our Creation series; therefore I will not spend a lot of time on this. For a second, lets get back to Napoleon Hill:

(PPT 5) Your subconscious mind recognizes and acts ONLY upon thoughts which have been well-mixed with emotion or feeling. Plain, unemotional words do not influence the subconscious mind. You will get no appreciable results until you learn to reach your subconscious mind with thoughts or spoken words, which have been well emotionalized with BELIEF. Hill, Napoleon. Think and Grow Rich

Here is where the imagination comes very handy. Imagination is in my opinion the most important of all our faculties because it allows us to create whatever emotion we wish to create. Now I am going to digress for just a second because this should be and will be the subject of next lesson.

The only way that we can cloth a thought with enough emotion, and in such a way that it can transmute something from invisible substance to visible manifestation is if we really DESIRE IT. Before we start working on imagining your good, I suggest that we get clear about what we really want.

Sometimes we sit down and say, I want a better paying job. Yeah, sure that’s nice. But that is not specific enough. You are not telling the Universe that you are really exited about that, because you have not taken the time to really get exited about something that you really want. Napoleon Hill talks about having such a burning desire that it will become an obsession. When I say obsession, I am not using this word in a negative way. What I mean is that you want it so much that you think about it all the time; you create a statement about accomplishing that dream whatever it is and you feel the emotions and the feelings once you are in possession of the dream or whatever it is you wish to accomplish.

Neville another of my favorite writers suggests to use the imagination to see your self not only in possession of your dream but also, AFTER you are enjoying it. Fill your mind with all sorts of details of what your life and circumstances will look like NOW that you have accomplished or acquired whatever it is that you were seeking.

Next week we will look at two principles, which when combined, they can bring you the results you desire. Those principles are the principles of DESIRE and CONCENTRATION

Affirmation: I allow only positive thoughts into my mind

Solo permito que pensamientos positivos entren en mi mente

Once upon a time there was a man that was a real estate speculator in the states of the great frontier. His wife had been healed from tuberculosis by applying some truth’s principles that she has just learned. This healing woke up in this man an intellectual curiosity. What had just happened, he asked. She had only been given six months to live but now she was in vibrant health. The man, who had grown up reading all kinds of books from various subjects, such as classic literature and philosophy, decided to study the religions of the East and the West in order to find out about his wife’s healing. His readings led to discovering a common denominator among the different religious persuasions he had studied. This common denominator he could only describe as Omnipresent Spirit, and was beyond the scope of human made doctrines and dogmas. He saw this everywhere-present Spirit as something that he could not fully explain; yet he reasoned that if this Spirit was Omnipresent, this Spirit was also in him. He also discerned that if God was Spirit and he was Spirit, they should be able to communicate. This contradicted the teachings of most religions in the West. The man was totally confused. One day he stopped reading; he got quiet for a moment and he said out loud: “In this Babel, which means confusion, I shall go to Headquarters. For the next six months Charles Fillmore sat in the silence every single evening at the same time until he finally experienced a breakthrough and heard the voice of Spirit. He had made a connection; a conscious and intentional connection. Later, that same voice told him that he had some important work to do in Kansas City. This, of course, led to the organized beginning of the Unity movement.

Sitting quietly, without an agenda, without a particular intention, just waiting to hear the voice of Spirit, is something that most of us do not do. Yet, it is the most important thing that we can do in order for the Law of Attraction to work. When I say work, I mean for us to manifest into visible form our dreams, our goals and our visions.

Let us remember that we all came from Source Energy, God, Spirit, it doesn’t matter the name. In Judaism, the oldest of the monotheistic religions, there are two prayers that are commanded in the Torah. They consist of three Biblical passages and the command, “speak of these things when you rise up and when you lie down” Specifically, I would like to address the one that is called, Shema, Israel, which literally means, Hear Israel; it comes from the book of Deuteronomy, where it reads, (PPT) “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.   Two ideas come to mind here. The first one is this command, which is ingrained in those raised in Jewish teachings, to acknowledge Spirit when they rise, when they turn in for the evening and at every meal. Does this account for the fact a great number of millionaires and billionaires are of the Jewish faith, I don’t know for sure, but is food for thought. The other idea is, that “THE LORD”, is one. Let us remember that, LORD is the English rendition of Jehovah, which literally means IAM, which was the name of God revealed to Moses. The bottom line is that, this acknowledgment of Spirit every morning, at every meal and at bedtime, is part of being in ALIGNMENT with Spirit. I must add that this needs to be done not by rote, but by setting aside for a minute all concerns of the day and consciously breathing in and out being aware of the presence of the Holy in you, around you through you, in everyone, through everyone, around everyone.

This is an excerpt from an Irish Catholic prayer that sums up what we are talking about:

(PPT)

May Christ shield me today.
Christ with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me,
Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit,
Christ when I stand,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I am using the word alignment. Just last week I took my car in for routine maintenance. I was taught that my car needed an alignment. By all means, do it, I said. Not taking care of it would have led to problems down the road, literally. That made me think how quickly I responded to the need of aligning my car. I need to respond in the same way in my need to align myself was Spirit. It is the only way to get into the flow of the blessings that we can receive through the law of attraction.

Manifesting through the Law of Attraction is deeply connected with FAITH. Faith is not something that you have or don’t have. You may believe or not believe something, but FAITH is a spiritual faculty that we all have.   Here is a layman’s quote about faith.

(PPT) FAITH is the head chemist of the mind. When FAITH is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence, as in the case of prayer.  -Napoleon Hill – Think and Grow Rich.

This is a most crucial concept for all of us to grasp. We have come to believe that faith is about Religion and spirituality only. These words, that Napoleon Hill Wrote in 1937 were very true then and are very true now. We can connect this with Charles Fillmore’s definition of faith, which reads, (PPT) Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with the power to shape substance. –Charles Fillmore-

In other words, faith already exists in our minds. How are we going to link faith with the power to shape substance? The only way to do that, of course, is with our thoughts. And remember, that our thoughts are always creating. So, we need to decide if we wish to create by design or by default.

I’ll just go back to the quote by Napoleon Hill, where he says, that faith needs to be blended with the vibration of thought. … Mmm …Blended with the vibration of thought. What is that all about? What does it mean? There’s another statement by Napoleon Hill that is very important that we consider here.

(Ppt) Repetition of affirmation of orders to your subconscious mind is the only known method of voluntary development of the emotion of faith. This has to do with autosuggestion, which is a separate topic altogether that we will be addressing later during this series. For now, let us know that IT IS POSSIBLE TO TRAIN OUR SUBCONSCIOUS MIND IN ORDER TO INCREASE OUR FAITH.

There is a story in Scripture in which Jesus’s disciples were not able to heal a young boy. The father of the boy went to Jesus and asked him if he could heal the boy, because his disciples were not able. At this point, Jesus answered (PPT) ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9: 23) To this, the father responded: (PPT) I believe; help my unbelief! Mark 9: 24

There are various points in this story and I wan to highlight two of them. First is that all things are possible for one who believes. This has to do with the spiritual quality or the emotion of Faith, as Napoleon Hill puts it. The other is the response, “I believe, help my unbelief’. What this means is that believing can be something that we can increase, grow, and augment, whichever way you want to describe it. Jesus in Scripture represents the Christ in us or our highest spiritual idea in expression. We can combine faith, the vibration of thought and our linkage to the Ineffable or to Spirit and affirm repeatedly that Spirit is increasing our Faith right this very moment.

I dare to say that most of us, give up easily when we do not see results immediately as far as our prayer work is concern. We are quick to say, this is not working and give up. Instead, I invite you to put prayer to the test, to put Spirit to the test. Now here it is important that you pray in the right way. What is that? Before I answer that, let us remember that we are defining prayer by being in alignment with Spirit. Being in alignment with Spirit means matching the vibration of Spirit. Now if we are matching the vibration of Spirit, we need to go into prayer, claiming and affirming and not begging. We need to go into prayer KNOWING and FEELING that the good we seek is already ours. We need to go into prayer, seeking God’s kingdom, or the realm of Divine Ideas First. We need to go into prayer seeking to be still and allow Spirit to do Spirit’s mighty work in us and through us. We need to erase from our minds any unforgiving thought or any sense of separation. We also need to Claim that Spirit is already helping our unbelief and increasing our faith. We need to use the power of autosuggestion, affirmations and use our imagination to see ourselves enjoying whatever it is that we are pursuing.

In 1937, that’s 80 years ago, Napoleon Hill wrote, (PPT) In connection with this, consider again the statement, ALL THOUGHTS WHICH HAVE BEEN EMOTIONALIZED, (given feeling) AND MIXED WITH FAITH, begin immediately to translate themselves into their physical equivalent or counterpart. In the 1990’s Greg Braden the author of the Divine Matrix wrote: (PPT) Feeling is the language that speaks to the Divine Matrix (the Universe). Feel as though your goal is accomplished and your prayer is already answered.

More than 2000 years ago Jesus said that whatever we asked in prayer BELIEVING, we would receive. The benchmark to gauge if we are really believing is how do we feel, how do we emote at the moment of the prayer. Seeing yourself already or even after possessing your dream or your goal and feeling the emotions that would ensue as a result, is the key of getting your wishes fulfilled. Using a combination of imagination and autosuggestion, which I will be addressing next week, is the next key to manifesting. God bless.

(PPT) This is a universe of vibration. As Einstein once observed, “Nothing happens until something moves”-that is, everything vibrates to a measurable frequency. Break the solid world down to smaller and tinier components and you see that what appears to be solid is a dance-a dance of particles and empty spaces. Go to the tiniest of these quantum particles, and you discover cover that it emanated from a source that vibrates so fast that it defies the world of beginnings and endings. This highest/fastest energy is called Source Energy. You and everyone and everything originated in this vibration and then moved into the world of things, bodies, minds, and egos. It was in the leaving of this Source Energy in our body/minds that we took on our entire world of problems, illnesses, scarcities, and fears.  -Wayne Dyer-

Good morning again, we are transitioning to a new series called, Manifesting Through the Law of Attraction. Last week we wrapped up our series on the Creation Story by addressing the concept of DIVINE IDEAS. As we get into the LAW OF ATTRACTION, I hope that you will find that there is a close connection between the two.

There have been times where I found myself struggling between using metaphysical and biblical principles to teach the law of attraction, and risking alienating those that are turned off by biblical concepts and church or religious type teachings. At the same time, if I only used secular and scientific terms such as Source energy instead of God or Christ, I would risk alienating the people with a strong Bible-based faith. I do not struggle anymore because to do so would be to fall back on the idea of duality and separation which has been for the most part promoted by traditional and organized religion. Instead, I must honor the concept of Unity and Oneness that were taught by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore and other New Thought pioneers.   My purpose in teaching this series is, (PPT)

  1. The Law of Attraction is real and it works.
  2. 2. The LOA is based on universal principles much older than Christianity.
  3. 3. You can find these universal principles in the Bible.

One of my very favorite authors, Napoleon Hill had this to say on this subject.

(PPT) Christianity is the greatest potential power in the world today, because its founder was an intense dreamer who had the vision and the imagination to see realities in their mental and spiritual form before they had been transmuted into physical form. -Napoleon Hill-

The first time that I was introduced to the concept that “like attracts like” therefore the name, LAW OF ATTRACTION, was the first time I read, Think and Grow Rich. There was an analogy that could easily be understood in those days. It involved a radio dial, where you literally and very carefully moved this little needle to the frequency that you were wanting to tune in. You had to get it right on the spot, otherwise you would hear static. Of course, precision tuning is now available in the digital age that we live.

But the bottom line was that if you wanted to receive the programming of a certain station, all you had to do was dial that frequency. Matching the frequency of that station would pretty much guarantee that you were going to receive that station.

The author continued to explain that our mind and our lives work in the same way. We can choose to tune in our minds to happy thoughts, productive thoughts, energetic thoughts. Among those channels are the I feel good channel, the I am powerful channel, the I can do this channel, and the All things are possible channel. Those are different stations in the receiver of our mind. There are also other channels. We have the sad, channel, the depressed, channel, the, poor me channel, the I am not good enough channel, the nobody likes me channel and so forth. Now, the channels we decide to make our favorites, like we do today, are going to determine the physical reality that we experience in our lives.

Friends, this is not some Pollyanna theory. I have seen this work in my life over and over. I am sure you have too. If not, just put it to the test and see for yourself

I want to bring back part of the introductory quote by Wayne Dyer:

(PPT) It was in the leaving of this Source Energy in our body/minds that we took on our entire world of problems, illnesses, scarcities, and fears. -Wayne Dyer-

I find it very interesting that in Unity we quote quite frequently an isolated verse from the book of Job, that says, “you shall decree a thing and it will be established unto you.” (Job 22:28 -KJV-) We quote it to show Biblical support for the power of the spoken word. But we conveniently do not quote the verses that come right before. These are some of them: (PPT)

“Submit to God and be at peace with him;
in this way prosperity will come to you.
22 Accept instruction from his mouth
and lay up his words in your heart.
23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be restored:
If you remove wickedness far from your tent (JOB 22:21-23)

This does not mean that God’s love is conditional. That would imply separation. This simply means that we must consciously and intentionally match our vibration to that of Source Energy, or Spiritual Energy, Divine Spirit, and so forth. It’s about being in alignment with God. What is that vibration? Perfect love, peace, wisdom, strength power etc., etc.

At one point, we were one with God, or Source Energy. Later we embraced the ways of the ego, personality, or the carnal mind. And we forgot how to be one with Source Energy.

For those that are not used to hearing these kinds of teachings and find them a little bit too far out, we can find the same concept in the Allegory of Genesis when Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden of Eden.

My purpose during this series is also to demystify the Law of Attraction. While is good to know about scientific principles and Biblical principles that support this powerful law, I will show you simple and practical ways to get this law to start working for you immediately.

I love it when the Universe provides me with a life experience that I can use in my Sunday message. Just yesterday I was visiting with a patient in the hospital. She shared with me that a cat scan a revealed a 12-centimeter mass in one of her lungs, which was communicated to her by her lung doctor. She immediately made some adjustments in her diet like cutting off sugar, but she began to use visualization techniques to see the mass shrinking and ultimately dissolving and disappearing. About 6 to 7 months after that she had to have another cat scan for an unrelated condition. The same lung doctor came into her room and told her that he had compared both cat scans and the mass was no longer there.

Folks, our natural state is one of perfect health. Our natural state is one of perfect peace. Our natural state is one of abundance. Once again, all that is required is that we recognize that we come from Source-Energy, or that we were created in the image and likeness of our Creator. Whether you are inspired by Scripture or by science, there is enough evidence to support that everything is energy that is constantly vibrating and all we need to do is match the vibration of Source-Energy, or align yourself with the thought of God, to create and manifest whatever your desire.

Napoleon Hill, said, whatsoever the human mind can conceive, it can achieve. Jesus taught that whatsoever you ask in prayer BELIEVING IT, you shall receive it. An Aramaic scholar that I used to know taught that the Aramaic word for prayer literally means, to catch and trap God thoughts. How do we do that? By intentional, prayer and meditation. How are these two related to the Law of Attraction? This is the subject of next week’s lesson. God Bless.

Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish. (John 21, 4-6)

Good morning. Today we are beginning to wrap up the Creation story series. The last two days of Creation is all about Divine Ideas. What exactly is that, we are about to find out.

Just a quick background for those that are just joining us. We have talked about each day of Creation symbolizing divine ideas or the spiritual equivalent for something the either manifested or was used later. First came light or illumination. That was followed by Faith or the Creation of the Firmament. The divine idea of imagination came later, symbolized by the separation of the water from the land, and finally, will and understanding showed up represented by the creation of the two big lights.

In the fifth day’s creation ideas of discrimination and judgment are developed. The fishes and fowls represent ideas of life working in mind, but they must be properly related to the unformed (seas) and the formed (earth) worlds of mind. -Charles Fillmore, Mysteries of Genesis.

Ok, enough of head stuff. Let’s find out what are Divine IDeas and how to apply them in our day to day lives. After all, that is what practical spirituality is; its about using Truths to make us more prosperous healthy, peaceful, etc, etc.

To be able to use divine ideas, we must first understand what a divine idea is. Let us remember that, everything emanates out of Divine Mind in the form of perfect ideas. We have been talking about Divine Order as the way, Spirit creates. First Mind, which has always existed and is eternal, then and Idea in mind and finally an expression. MIND, IDEA, EXPRESSION.

Now, we must accept as a fact that in Spirit, in Divine Mind, in God, however you wish to call it, there is only perfection. Therefore it makes sense to deduce that the ideas that emanate out of Divine Mind, are also perfect. Now what are those ideas and how do they impact us?

Well, for a moment let’s establish the character of God, from which Divine Ideas emanate. We must once and for all do away with the concept of a human God and adopt the concept of God as Principle.

God as Principle is the unchangeable UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, WISDOM, STRENGTH, POWER, SUBSTANCE, LIFE.  Principle does not occupy space or is limited by time or matter. It exists as the underlying Cause of everything that exists.

Ok, now, lets take for example the Divine Idea of Health. Health or perfect health is the word used to describe a Reality, with capital R and the true estate of us humans as visible expressions of God. I want you to focus on the idea of health for just a moment, particularly if you or someone you know is facing a health challenge of any kind. For a moment, just get rid of any concerns about sickness. No one is going to take them away from you; they will be there anytime you want to pick them up again.

In the scripture in the beginning, the apostles had been fishing all night and had cast their nets on the left side of the boat. Now the boat, like any dwelling represents our consciousness . Jesus tells them to cast their netbooks on right side, which is representative of the right side of the brain. The left side deals with numbers, calculations and logic. The right side deals with creativity, spirituality and faith. The fish are divine ideas.

Now in this exercise, do not think about a particular person or condition. Just think about the Divine Idea of Health, perfect health. Mae Rowland, a former director of Silent Unity used to say, It is your birthright to be healthy. Well, now that I think about it, we used sometimes the term, Our Divine Inheritance. How do we get our Divine Inheritance? We get it in the form of these Divine Ideas.

Let’s get back to contemplating the Divine Idea of Health. In doing so, we can create statements affirming this Divine Idea. For example:

  1. I am one with Divine Health
  2. Only perfection touches every cell of my body
  3. I am whole and perfect
  4. Every cell of my body vibrates with perfect health

That’s the way to work on a divine idea. It is also important to understand that, Divine IDeas are never exhausted or depleted. Just the opposite is true. The more we draw upon them, the more they seem to be available for you.

Now, in many cases, when you start working on these Divine Ideas, by the simple action of Cause and Effect, you may start feeling a little better. It does not always happen, but it does happen. The key is to stick with it regardless of the appearances. Remember we should not judge by appearances, but rather we should judge with righteous judgment. What is that? The fact that it is our Divine Inheritance to be perfect whole and healthy.

In Scripture (Matthew 5:48) there is an invitation from Jesus that says, Be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect. Is this an invitation not to make any mistakes, of course not. First, the word that was translated as perfect could have been translated as WHOLE or COMPLETE. Also, Jesus was actually quoting Leviticus 20 where it says, Be Holy because I am the Lord your God. The word Holy comes from the same root as the word WHOLE. What kind of wholeness are we talking about in the context of the Divine Idea of Health? We are talking about wholeness of MIND, wholeness of Body, and wholeness of Spirit.

When we contemplate this Divine Idea of Health, we must touch all three.   I EXPRESS DIVINE HEALTH IN MIND BODY AND SPIRIT .

Now, let us switch to the Divine Idea of Substance. We all have heard of the phrase, ‘the rich get richer” Most of us do not like that idea. That idea is a cliche, yet, it is based on a certain reality. We are not debating here if the person has morals, is good, bad, worthy or unworthy. The fact is that somewhere along the line, this person connected with the substance-idea. He or she may not have called it that, but a connection what that divine idea was made. Because of that connection and that person’s will and determination, riches were manifested. That person could have called it the Real Estate Business or the oil business, but those are just channels of Divine Substance. So the fact is that the richer get richer and the poorer get poorer. This made me think of one of the the most misunderstood and frowned upon verses of scripture, which is this:

Matthew 13:12

For to the one who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.

Now, if we interpret this literally, we say that it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. But how about metaphysics to the rescue. Let’s rewrite it.

For those who have grasped the concept of the Divine Substance, more will be given and will have an abundance, but for the ones who have not grasped that concept, even what they have will be taken away. (GATC)

Now be aware that grasping the concept of Divine Substance, entails grasping it in its entirety, meaning that this Substance is unlimited and cannot be depleted. That also means that in cannot be hoarded and it needs to be put in circulation.

In the same way that we used the Divine Idea of health, we can reflect or meditate upon the idea of unlimited substance. If you were experiencing apparent lack, set that aside for the time being, do not think about the challenge or the situation. Reflect upon these affirmations:

  1. I am one with Divine Substance.
  2. Spirit is my Source and Supply
  3. Freely I give, abundantly I receive.
  4. The riches of the Universe are mine now
  5. There is more from where that came from.

Next week I am starting an original series, in which we are going to take the spiritual foundation of Divine Ideas and take them to the next level by exploring, Manifesting Through the Law of Attraction.   I am really exited about this. Start working on a list of the things that you want to see in your life. I invite you to think on paper, Write it all down without thinking of any limitations whatsoever.

Le us all manifest by applying The Law of Attraction. God bless you, see you next week.

The Stage of Awakening. October 2, 2016

.

.
(PPT) The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else. From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
Good morning once again and welcome to this Sunday’s message that is part of the series that I have called, “Awaken to Your Highest Potential, based on the book, (PPT)The Awakening Course by Joe Vitale. Today we are moving into this stage of spiritual development that Joe Vitale is calling the stage of awakening

One interesting thing that the author points out is that in the previous three stages, which are the stage of being or feeling like a victim, the stage of empowerment and the stage of surrender, are stages in which, pretty much, we have a degree of control in terms of going into a particular stage, transcending that stage and moving up to the next stage.

The stage of Awakening, however, happens almost by grace, to use the same expression that the author used. This reminded me of the 5 Step prayer process that we teach in Unity, which is, Relaxation, Concentration, Meditation (Or The Silence) Realization and Thanksgiving. Well, there is a fine line, between the silence and the realization, which cannot be purposely sought or pursued; it just magically happens when you least expect it. Some people refer to it as a moment of bliss, a moment, ever so briefly, of being One with the Universe.
Well, according to Joe Vitale, the state of awakening is similar to that and the way to reach that stage is by having a consistent practice of meditation.

One of the exercises that the author invites us to do is to sit in a quiet place and observe your thoughts. Then realize for a moment that you are observing your thoughts, but you are not your thoughts. Then, we do the same thing with our emotions; observe whether you are happy, sad, angry, whatever. Come also into the realization that you are not your emotions. Then let us observe our body, from the top of our heads to the tip of our toes. Pay attention how your body feels. Perhaps there is an achy sensation here and there. And then, also realize that you are not your body either. Then, if you are not your thoughts, if you are not your emotions, if you are not you body, what are you, who are you? Who is that is witnessing your thoughts, your emotions and your feelings. Here is where the author makes a bold statement. He suggests that the witness within you that is observing your thoughts, your emotions and your body is none other than God. This might come across as too far out for some people. It was a bit far out for me also, so I decided to run it through the scrutiny of Scripture. In the 139th Psalm we read : (PPT) Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there your hand will guide me, Psa 139, 7-10
In other words, first and foremost, the Bible writer is stating that God is Spirit and not a being made of flesh and bones. Later the writer of this verse is also saying that it doesn’t matter where we physically go, God is right there with us; How can that be unless God, is an integral part of who we are? AND, Of course, we began with reading that says : For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring. There is another scripture that says that the secret of the ages is. “Christ in you the hope of Glory.

The first time that I came across the teachings of an author called Neville, I could not believed that the author was suggesting that our imagination was God. I could not believe what I was reading. My first reaction was that this type of assertion could be considered blasphemous. But the more I pondered that possibility, I realized that, our imagination was what separated us from the rest of the animal kingdom. The imagination was what allowed us to observe our thoughts, our emotions and our bodies. Our imagination also allowed us to reflect about our past and visualize our future. Our imagination was the only thing that allowed us to create a vision for our lives and in that way become co creators with God. If I remember correctly in the story of creation humans are the only ones created in the image and likeness of God.

Now, perhaps one of the obstacles that we need to overcome when pondering the notion that we are God or at least that we are God-like, has to do with our own sense of unworthiness. And that comes not from our spiritual self but from our ego. The opposite also applies. When I am telling you, You are God’s, I am not telling you that for building you up either. That of itself would be of the ego as well. The awakening that we are talking about is definitely not from the ego.

The author uses a Japanese Buddhist term called, Satori to explain, Awakening. Satori is a Japanese Buddhist term for awakening, “comprehension; understanding”

In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to the experience of kenshō, “seeing into one’s true nature”.

(PPT) A satori moment is one in which you realize, “I am one with all. I am one with the universe.” In that moment, your identity, your ego, falls away. You’re still aware. You still know your name. You still know where you live. You still have all of the personal history that’s in your mind, but your attachment to it is gone. It is the moment you realize, “I am one with the Divine.”

Now friends, being aware of our God nature is not exclusive of Eastern Religions such as Zen Buddhism, Hinduism and the like. In the Christian religions this is what was experienced by the Mystics such as Saint Francis, Saint Therese and many others. Now, somehow we got the message that awakening, satori or enlightenment was the exclusive domain of the saints and the Mystics, and there is nothing further from the truth.
Jesus told the people of his time, Isn’t it written in your law, “ye are God’s sons and daughters of the most high? He was quoting the 82nd psalm. Jesus also said I and the Father are one. Now, this is a perfect illustration of what the author is teaching about enlightenment not being of the ego. Notice that a grammatically correct sentence would have read, The Father and I are one. Yet, Jesus said I and the Father are one. Charles Fillmore taught that the I statements that appear in the Gospel of John, do not refer to the I of the personality or the ego, but instead mean the Christ persona or the I AM, which is the name of God, within Jesus and within you and I. So Jesus is not saying, I, Jesus and the Father are one. He is saying, the Christ in me and the Father are one. Fillmore also taught that the main difference between Jesus and us is that Jesus was able to completely drop the ego and the personality and for all practical purposes became one with the Father. Now Jesus also taught, that we could do the things that he did and even greater things we could do. So in the same manner that Jesus said, Christ in me and the Father are one, we can also say, Christ in me and the father are one.

The main tool for us to awaken is the practice of meditation. But it is not just any meditation. We are talking about the mindfulness kind of meditation in which you realize that you are not your thoughts and you acknowledge the divine and has the divine to remove the awareness of any mortal limitation. Charles Fillmore wrote an invocation that sums up what we are trying to explain this morning:

(PPT) I AM NOW in the presence of pure Being and immersed in the Holy Spirit of life, love, and wisdom.

I acknowledge Thy presence and power, O blessed Spirit. In Thy divine wisdom now erase my mortal limitations, and from Thy pure substance of love bring into manifestation my world, according to Thy perfect law.

I like to use this prayer in song to move us to a place of Meditation .

Stage of Empowerment. 9/11

Intro (PPT) When something happens to you, you can look at it as profoundly negative, or you can look at it as a wonderful opportunity. That goes for just about everything that happens. -Joe Vitale, The Awakening Course.

(PPT)“Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep (John 10, 1-2)

(PPT) 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. (John 10, 7-8)
Good morning and once again welcome. Welcome to the third lesson in a series, which I am calling, (PPT) Awaken to Your Highest Potential, based on the book, (PPT) The Awakening Course by Joe Vitale.
If you wish to catch up with the beginning of our series, I am posting the text every week in our blog, which you can find at unitychurch.com

Last week’s message was about moving from a consciousness of being a victim, to a consciousness of being empowered. Today we will be focusing more on the empowered side of things, because according to the author, Empowerment is the second stage in our process of Awakening, which is the main theme of this series and of the book.
In the second chapter of the book, the author talks about seven steps that are necessary to move away from the victim mentality and into the stage of empowerment. We do not have time to go over them in detail here. We actually discussed them in our Wednesday evening conversation. However, there is one, number four, which I would like to focus on. Basically is this :

(PPT) In order to change your thoughts, you must become aware that you are separate from your thoughts. This is a very profound, very powerful, very important first step to understanding how to leave the victim mentality and start to enter Stage Two. -Joe Vitale-
And, perhaps you are thinking that this is not new. For some, it might not be. But most people, while completely unaware, think that they are their thoughts, and because of that, they think they have not control over them. The invitation here is for us to become observers of our thoughts. Maybe we can pretend that we are in a movie theater all by ourselves, and on the screen, like a ticker tape, we are seeing our thoughts go by. Some of these thoughts tend to repeat themselves. They have to do with deep seated patterns that were unconsciously absorbed over the years. By doing this exercise, we have the opportunity, to say: Do I really believe that? Is that really true? This is important when we become aware of thoughts that are limiting and that have not served us very well.
Let me digress for a moment. The book that we are studying is a self-help motivational and secular book, meaning, there is very little spirituality in it. Well, maybe. Carl Jung said that in the Universal principles of Scripture you can find a lot of psychology. Actually, James Dillet Freeman, the author of The Prayer for Protection, said that Unity was spiritual psychology. Where am I going with this? Well, let’s look for a moment at the scripture I shared at the beginning.
(PPT) 7 Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. 8 All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. (John 10, 7-8)

According to Charles Fillmore, the co-founder of Unity, (PPT) THE DOOR OF YOUR mind is your open-mindedness. “I am the door of the sheep.” “Sheep” are your thoughts. “A thief and a robber” is mortal thought. The “porter” is the will. The “good shepherd” is the spiritual I AM. All forces that come into your consciousness in any other way than through your own I AM are thieves and robbers. No man can be saved from the limitations and mistakes of ignorance except through his own volition. Charles Fillmore taught that there is a wide spread notion that we can go to a coach, a guru, a workshop, a class, a preacher, whatever, to help us untangle our thoughts, but the bottom line is that can be like the thieves and robbers in the Scripture at the beginning because at the end of the day, it’s only the awareness of our Divine self the only way to help us transform our lives from limitation to prosperity, form sickness into health and from dysfunction and lack of harmony to peaceful living.

The process of becoming the observer of our thoughts is one of the most important things that we can do on our way to being empowered.
Joe Vitale points out that an important thing to do is to observe our thought patterns and our reactions to those thought patterns BEFORE THEY BECOME WORDS. I promise you, I have been doing that lately. Use it to observe how do you react to every person or circumstance. Whether you are interacting with a co-worker, with your spouse, or with a stranger on the highway, watch your thoughts and emotions BEFORE they become words and then ask your self: Is this what I want? If the answer is no, which most of the time it is, then you can take that which you do not want, turn it into a positive and declare an intention of what you really want. I love a phrase from A Course in Miracles that says, I choose peace instead of this. Another good one is: Do I want to be right or do I want to be happy? This is part of the spiritual self-mastery that we talked about last week. This is about coming into our power, by using our will; will and power are two of our spiritual capacities.
So here perhaps is the ” How to” of this lesson. These are five steps that Joe Vitale lists that can help us not only get what we want but also to become empowered.

Know what you do not want
This sounds so obvious and so simple and most people overlook it. Being consciously aware of what we do not want can be useful information, so the author advises to make a list of what you do not want. This is not a list of words but rather statements about the conditions that we do not want in our lives. The idea is not to dwell on those conditions, but to identify them so we can take those very same statements and turn them into positive affirmations, which will lead us to step two. If you come on Wednesday, I will be expanding on a technique on how to do this.

2. Declare an Intention of what you want. Some people say: “But I don’t know what I want” Easy. All they have to do is look at the list on step one and the things that they’ve been complaining about, reverse them into positives and you have your intention.

3. Clear Limiting Beliefs – This is what Joe Vitale says about that:

(PPT) In the second step, you may have said, “I intend to lose weight.” “I intend to stop smoking.” “I intend to attract great wealth.” However, if inside of you, you don’t believe that’s possible, or you don’t believe you deserve it, or you have any number of beliefs that are limiting, negative beliefs, you will block the intention from coming about.
4. Use your imagination and add emotion when thinking about the things YOU DO WANT.
The author recommends a technique that was taught by a New Thought writer called Neville Goddard. People referred to him just as Neville. Neville taught the importance of our imagination; by the way, another one of our spiritual capacities. He said that the key to manifestation was to imagine with vivid detail including the emotions you would fill if your were already in possession of your dream, goal or whatever your intention may be.

One thing that the author talks about is the fact that IMPOSSIBLE if just a word. (Personal Story about unitychurch.com )

5. Let go and take inspired action is the last step. Someone said that one of the benchmarks of a spiritually advanced person is to be unattached to results. I know that it sounds counterintuitive but a way to manifesting something is not being attached to having it. Remember that inspiration without action is just entertainment. Listen to your inspiration and follow thru by taking some sort of action that will move you towards your intention, your dream or your goal.

I like to close with this thought. During this stage of empowerment, it’s very easy for our ego consciousness to get in the way. We have learned that, in fact, we can be and we are masters of our ship. But in reality we only begin to achieve such mastery when we enter the third stage, which is about surrender. And that is the title of next week’s lesson.

God bless
